Dave Portnoy Just Made A Bunch Of Conservatives ENRAGED
Trump supporter Dave Portnoy is facing backlash for encouraging his viewers to support weed legalization in Florida.
- 7 minutes
Barstool Sports founder
and self-proclaimed Donald Trump supporter
Dave Portnoy is catching some heat
following his endorsement of
legalizing marijuana for recreational use
in the state of Florida.
Now, Floridians luckily have
an opportunity to vote in favor
[00:00:18]
of legalized weed in their state
through a ballot initiative.
And to be specific, Portnoy was referring
to Florida Amendment three, which
legalizes marijuana for adults 21 years
and older and also allows individuals to
possess up to three ounces of marijuana.
[00:00:35]
Now, in the video, he himself is partaking
in the devil's lettuce, if you will,
and he also says the following.
Listen, it's Sunday afternoon.
Football on TV,
pizza on the way in Massachusetts.
Smoking a little weed.
Just enjoying my day.
[00:00:51]
Florida. You can do this.
You can't do this in my Miami house.
You can't do this.
Why? It's about freedom.
Half the states
allow this legal marijuana.
Florida.
I want to be able to watch football,
eat pizza and smoke.
[00:01:07]
We're all adults here. 21 plus.
Make your own decisions.
It's on the ballot. Vote yes on three.
Legalize recreational weed. Come on.
Where are we?
Florida. Wake up now.
His take puts him in line
with most Floridians who actually do want
[00:01:24]
it legalized for recreational use.
And by the way, Donald Trump agrees
with legalizing it for recreational use.
So recent polling maybe.
Okay, so recent polling found
there is overwhelming support
for ballot initiatives this year
that broadened personal freedoms,
including 65% who support amendment three.
[00:01:43]
And that's up from 63% in April
and 76% support for amendment four,
which would enshrine abortion protections
in the Florida Constitution.
So I heard Trump.
I forget what the context was.
It might have been in a podcast interview
that he did where he was kind of singing
[00:02:01]
the praises of medicinal marijuana.
So I don't know.
He seems to have opened up to marijuana
and has also said that should he get
elected, he would legalize it federally.
Yeah, he's full of crap
because he was president for four years,
didn't do anything about it.
[00:02:17]
The reason he doesn't do anything about it
is because his brother
had an addiction problem
not with marijuana, but with alcohol.
And so in his infantile mind,
anything that is addictive.
No. That's it.
It's the worst thing.
It's going to get you killed.
I'm not going to do it now.
It's a good thing
that he didn't do it himself.
[00:02:33]
I can't imagine what his personality
would be like on drugs.
Right.
But that brother,
that doesn't affect the rest of us.
So if you think Trump's going
to legalize it,
why didn't he do it for four long years?
And by the way, Biden is terrible on this.
He reclassified but didn't declassify.
[00:02:49]
So people defending Biden know
just make it legal already.
And both Biden and Trump
and stuck in the 1970s and 80s
and are riding with Nancy Reagan.
Oh, just say no.
- It's so.
- Dangerous.
Hey, don't scroll away.
Come back, come back.
[00:03:05]
Because before the video continues,
we just want to urge you
to lend your support to tight U power.
Our honest reporting.
You do it at tyt.com/team
and we love you for it.
Okay, so let me give you
the backlash toward Portnoy for supporting
[00:03:21]
legalizing recreational marijuana.
So former football player
and current conservative commentator
Jason Whitlock responded to Portnoy on X,
saying, this is why single people
and people without kids shouldn't vote.
We tend to think very selfishly
with no concern for what we're leaving
[00:03:36]
the next generation.
Married people with kids
should be the only voters.
We should prioritize families
if we want to fix our broken culture.
Jason, are you really unaware
of how many deadbeat parents there are
in this country who not only do not care
about the future of the country,
they couldn't give a damn
about the future of their own children.
[00:03:53]
And you think that they're
more responsible
than people who don't have kids?
Can we please stop with this BS argument?
Okay, you're not a hero
because you had kids.
Okay.
All the parents out there
who want to pat themselves on the backs
because they had children.
Congratulations.
You made that decision for yourself.
[00:04:08]
You're no better than people
who decide against having kids.
Period. That's what a dumb moral judgment.
Oh, you want to live your life in a way
that's different than mine, I judge you.
Okay, well, then I judge you back.
And you're a dumbass right winger
Jason Whitlock from the 1800s.
[00:04:25]
We're like, we should go backwards.
Let's go backwards.
I judge you for being dumb.
And by the way, being deeply unpopular.
No one agrees with you, including a
majority of Republicans and right wingers.
Matt Walsh says, can you point
to any state or city in the country
[00:04:41]
where life has been in any way measurably
improved after legalizing marijuana?
Where are the legalization
success stories?
Give me just one, please.
Okay, we can do that.
So, for instance, in 2019, Colorado,
one of the first states to legalize
recreational marijuana, generated more
than $1 billion in sales from marijuana,
[00:05:00]
which increased the state's coffers,
meaning they had additional tax revenue,
which seems like a winner here.
And states collected nearly $3 billion
in marijuana revenues in 2022 alone.
Florida could stand
to see some major benefits
[00:05:18]
if they pass this measure as well.
So, for instance, a July 2023 report
projected that recreational cannabis would
generate sales tax revenues of between
$195.6 million and $431.3 million a year.
[00:05:34]
And the number of people who died
from marijuana usage in those states zero.
I can show you a lot more that died
from alcohol consumption, but we're not
going backwards and going to prohibition.
Now, look, there's two different sets
of right wingers these days.
There's what I call the bros
like Dave Portnoy, Joe Rogan.
[00:05:51]
ET cetera.
So they have a whole bunch of issues
that I disagree with them on,
but at least they actually do believe
in freedom and smaller government.
And there's a traditional conservatives
that, you know,
apparently people are calling boomer cons.
So that's Matt Walsh.
Whitlock if you put them together,
maybe we can call them the Matlock voters.
[00:06:08]
Oh my God.
Because they're as old as Matlock too.
So and so they the Matlock voters are.
Like, if we just go back to the 1600s
and we listen to what
this so-and-so religious leader said,
and we stop all progress and make you do
what they did 800 years ago,
[00:06:25]
then everything is going to be great.
Well, you guys are
the biggest losers of all.
No one believes
what you're saying anymore.
You're a tiny, tiny minority and soon
to be a minority within your own party
and in your own movement.
So keep moralizing telling us about
how big government has to run your lives.
[00:06:42]
You can't do that.
Your doctor can't do that.
You can't control your body.
You can't control your body.
You sound like an evil Oprah.
Like where you're grabbing
everybody's body and saying, no,
I rule your bodies, not you.
That is not small government
that is oppressive.
[00:06:59]
And we're not interested
in your so-called morality.
And I've seen your so-called morality.
It ain't anywhere near actual moral.
So please spare us.
If you don't want to smoke weed,
then don't smoke it.
But for the rest of us,
it's called freedom.
And apparently you hate it. Sorry.
[00:07:16]
We win, you lose. You're a tiny minority.
You could take your
big government and shove it.
