You Won't Believe How Lazy Our Lawmakers Are
President-elect Trump wants Senate Republicans to stop Democrats from confirming more judges, but some senators can't be bothered to show up
- 7 minutes
Donald Trump has been calling on
all Republican senators to, you know,
stop everything they're doing
to ensure that they stop the confirmations
of Biden appointed judges.
But his plan is actually being thwarted
by the very Republican senators.
[00:00:19]
He is asking to do their jobs.
Now, this story, in my opinion,
is hilarious,
not because of what the focus is now.
The focus is actually
really important, right?
Ensuring that Biden get his
appointments confirmed by the Senate.
But what's hilarious
is how lazy our politicians are.
[00:00:37]
So whether you're a Democrat
or Republican, it doesn't even matter,
because both sides really show
what their priorities are in this case.
So, apparently, according to Axios,
President Biden is now only 15 judicial
confirmations away from the record set
by Donald Trump in his first term.
[00:00:57]
Now, Trump did manage to confirm
a record number of federal judges, and he
did that with the help of Chuck Schumer,
who made a deal with Mitch McConnell
to fast track the confirmation process
of all of these right wing federal judges.
[00:01:12]
And Trump posted yesterday
once he realized, okay,
there are a lot of Biden appointed judges
that are getting confirmed,
we got to do something to stop it.
So here's what he posted.
The Democrats are trying to stack
the courts with radical left judges
on their way out the door.
Republican senators
need to show up and hold the line.
[00:01:30]
No more judges confirmed
before Inauguration Day.
But after he posted that, it turns
out that the Senate actually ended
up confirming two more of Biden's judges.
Why?
Well, because two Republican senators,
Ted Cruz and Mike Braun, missed the votes.
[00:01:49]
They were not present.
And had they been there to vote against
Biden's judges, it would be a 5050 split.
And at that point, Kamala Harris
as vice president would break the tie.
Except she's currently
vacationing in Hawaii, so she would not
[00:02:07]
be able to break that 5050 tie.
Amazing.
We're talking about
federal judge appointments.
Guys, this has an impact
for decades, for decades.
Okay.
And these people are like, I don't know,
don't really feel like showing up.
[00:02:26]
And look, I get it.
Kamala Harris just ran a campaign.
She deserves a break.
But how about finish up business first
and then take your vacation to Hawaii?
You know, take a load off.
You've got nothing else going on
after this term is over,
but, like, get the job done first.
[00:02:41]
But luckily, you know, her Hawaii vacation
wasn't that big of a problem
because you have two Republican
senators who didn't show up.
Yeah, Brian's going to be governor.
And so he's not even going back
to Washington,
which is actually bad politics for him.
I'm surprised he's being that dumb
because that could come back to haunt him
[00:02:59]
in a future race, people could say, hey,
you let those Democratic judges through
because you were too busy in,
you know, not showing up to DC. But Vance
didn't show up to some of the earlier
votes, and then he took some heat for it,
and then he put something out in public
[00:03:15]
and then had to retract it.
ET cetera.
But to me and Ted Cruz,
it's not he was probably in Cancun.
Yeah.
So so I'm not surprised by any of these
guys because they're all incredibly lazy.
They barely work
throughout the year anyway.
Ted Cruz has a podcast
that seems to be his main profession.
[00:03:33]
They barely vote on anything.
They never get anything done.
And literally half the year is
vacation for them on their schedule.
I ran for Congress, and I looked at it
and I was like, I can't believe it.
For example, they don't work
a single day in August.
- It's okay.
- Jesus Christ.
They got to fundraise.
[00:03:48]
- They got to.
- Fundraise.
Yeah.
And they usually don't work in December.
And like, their vacations are gigantic.
Okay, so no,
but they still have to be on vacation.
But okay.
But so for now, Kamala Harris is off
the hook because the the lazy Republicans
[00:04:03]
aren't showing up, right.
But if all the Republicans show up
and Kamala Harris stays in Hawaii, well,
then you'll know that these Democrats
never cared about any of the policies,
any of the things that affect us
women's reproductive rights.
Those judges are critical.
[00:04:18]
They told us that we have
to vote Democrat for based on judges.
And that's true.
That's true. And that's why.
And I tell you that.
And then when we need her,
she's like, oh, I'm busy in Hawaii.
Okay, look, so far she's off the hook.
If they get to 50 and she doesn't show up,
I will be furious.
[00:04:37]
And all of you should be furious.
So, I mean, think of just think about
what her main campaign message was
toward the end of her campaign.
Right.
It was she pivoted completely away
from any economic policy
[00:04:52]
that would improve people's lives
and focused on Trump being a threat.
Trump is a fascist.
Okay, so you're going to be away at a time
when these incredibly important
appointments are being confirmed.
It just doesn't make any sense to me.
[00:05:08]
But Trump isn't the only Republican
who's fuming over these absentee senators.
So Senator John Kennedy, when asked about
how frustrated he was over what happened,
said on a scale of 1 to 10. A 12.
Senator Thom Tillis also stated,
[00:05:25]
I don't care what the reasons were,
we have fewer
than 15 scheduled legislative days.
You have to show up.
Period. End of story.
There's nothing more important.
And you're correct, John.
You know, Vice President elect JD Vance
has also caught heat over this.
[00:05:42]
Earlier this week, after Democrats
confirmed yet another Biden judge 49
to 45, and Vance was not present.
So here's how he justified his absence.
He said I was meeting with President Trump
to interview multiple positions for our
government, including for FBI director.
[00:05:59]
I tend to think it's more important
to get an FBI director who will dismantle
the deep state than it is for Republicans
to lose a vote 49 to 46,
rather than 49 to 45.
So this is a rare instance where I agree
with Republican senators, because if I'm
Tom Tillis and the other guys,
[00:06:16]
and to them they want
the worst judges in the world,
they don't want these decent judges.
It's not just to take away
women's reproductive rights.
Remember, these are the judges
that allow for corruption
and bribery and corporate power.
And by the way,
Trump is going to put in loyalists.
[00:06:32]
So if he is going to be a threat
to democracy,
he wants his judges who will allow him
to run roughshod over the Constitution.
So I get it from their
strategic perspective.
And if I was like, let's say Bernie was
president and he needs to or is going
[00:06:48]
to become president and needs to block
Trump's judges and some Democratic
senators don't show up, I would be livid.
Livid, right.
Last thing is on Kamala Harris.
Look again.
As Anna said, you want to take a break
after this campaign
[00:07:04]
and it's heartbreaking.
I totally, utterly get it right.
But if they need you
and you don't show up.
You've got your entire life
to take a vacation.
Don't make me say it. Okay.
And you're going to have infinite money.
[00:07:20]
You're going to write a book
and a bunch of, you know,
establishment suckers that watch Morning
Joe on The View are going to buy it.
You're going to be spectacularly wealthy.
You're going to be feted as a oh,
beloved Democratic presidential candidate.
You can live in Hawaii the rest of your
life if they need you, you better show up.
[00:07:36]
Otherwise, no one should ever
trust her again with anything.
